“How could this happen?” was just one newspaper’s headline after the G20 summit in Hamburg in 2017.
The interior minister even remarked “the police situation was unexpected.”
Over the course of the G20 summit well over 100.000 people demonstrated peacefully for a more just world. According to police approximately 1.500 people chose violent protest fueled by political motivation for some and simply fun for others. The summit itself as well as its results were overshadowed in the public eye by images such as these.
